Local affordable housing provider, Teign Housing, have built eight new, self-contained mobility scooter hubs at Mill Path in Ashburton and six at Alberta Court in Teignmouth. This project was part of a wider £250k regeneration programme to help improve accessibility at a number of locations within their housing stock.

The programme also included improvements to storage areas, 40 new ramps and footpaths and better access to communal amenities such as washing areas. We also installed a new lift at Lanherne and a number of wet rooms.

Tony Sharland, Teign Housing’s head of asset management and development said: “Whilst we have had our busiest year for building new homes, we also want to make sure we make continuous improvements to our existing homes. Investing in simple improvements such as access and storage can make a huge difference to communal areas and make life much easier for residents.”

The new mobility scooter hubs are secure, include charging facilities and have individual lighting.
