Mr and Mrs Mountain from Kenn have been named as TeignCare’s 1000th customer and Judi Spiers presented them with a bouquet of flowers to mark the occasion. TeignCare, a personal alarm and support service provided by Teign Housing, now supports 1000 people in Teignbridge to live more confidently and independently in their own homes.
Stephen Purser, Chair of the Board said: “It was really good to have Judi here today to help mark the occasion and to celebrate the growth of this valuable service. Many older people want to stay in their homes for as long as possible, but their families, who often have busy lives and can’t always be around, worry about the welfare of their elderly relatives. Our TeignCare service acts as a stepping stone before residential care. It gives reassurance to families that help is at hand and allows their elderly parents to stay in their own home for longer.”
The service has recently been expanded to include HomeSure visits. Customers can now choose to have the personal alarm plus an additional HomeSure visit depending on the level of support they require. HomeSure visits are designed to give extra reassurance by helping older people with their day-to-day wellbeing. TeignCare’s trained staff can help with claiming benefits and filling in forms and referrals to other services.
