Haldon Traveller Site extension approved

On Tuesday 11 April Teignbridge District Council had its planning application to extend the Haldon Ridge Traveller site unanimously approved. We manage the site on behalf of Teignbridge District Council and this is quite monumental, in planning terms, for Traveller sites across the UK.

Why is it such a positive step?

  • Sets a great precedent for other councils to build more sites and reduce evictions

  • Provides more stable accommodation for people for as long as they want it

  • Allows residents to access services consistently and Traveller children to have a stable education - good, welcoming local schools have supported children from the site

  • One baby has been born since the site opened and another one due in June - the mums have had access to maternity services and midwife visits on site.

We are proud of the Haldon Ridge Traveller site and to have no local objections submitted against the plans is a big achievement. We are also pleased that the local Parish Council of Kennford supported the plans, whereas previously they were opposed, which is testament to the staff who manage the site and the residents who live there.
