Local affordable housing provider, Teign Housing, has been working with students from Project Search to give them practical job interview experience. Project Search is an internationally acclaimed programme that aims to remove the significant barriers faced by people with learning disabilities when looking for employment.

To make the whole process as realistic as possible, each student went through the job application process, attended an interview at Teign Housing’s office and received feedback on their performance.

Karen Johnson, Teign Housing’s Head of Corporate and Customer Services said: “It has been fantastic to work with Project Search. Not only is it beneficial to the students, but it gives our staff great interview experience. It also gives us better insight into what barriers those with learning disabilities face, this will help us to make fair adjustments to how we conduct interviews and our recruitment process.”

Ros Banfield, Project Search Business Liaison Officer at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The students had a fantastic day with the team at Teign Housing. The young people undertook mock interviews with their staff, who had done a huge amount of preparation in order to make this a valuable experience. The staff were fully engaged with the students and provided them with a great opportunity.”
