Move it, or lose it

A group of ladies at Lanherne in Dawlish are proving age is just a number with their weekly exercise class ‘Move It or Lose It’.

With the help of their Independent Living Advisor, Ann Gifford, the ladies got in touch with fitness instructor, Diz Wright and set up a chair based exercise class for tenants and non-tenants.

Staying active when you get a little older is a great way to boost your energy and improve your physical and mental health.

Regular exercise helps to strengthen muscle and bones and members have reported that their mobility and balance has improved and they have had less falls. Exercise also has a positive impact on your mental health, members say that they look forward to classes because they lift their mood, they have been able to make new friends and they spend a lot of time laughing.

The classes are held at the Lanherne community room on Wednesday mornings at 9.45am. The first session to new members is free, then there’s a small weekly charge. The ladies are actively trying to encourage more gentlemen to join them and you don’t have to be a resident of Lanherne to join in – it’s open to all.
