In a fix with your broken electrical items and gadgets? Time to get them fixed for free at a special event to be held at Buckland and Milber Community Centre, Gilbert Road, Buckland, Newton Abbot, TQ12 4HS on Saturday 24th September.
Recycle Devon is putting on a series of REPAIR IT events across the county for householders to bring along their broken electrical appliances, including computers, to be fixed by local menders and the Teignbridge event will take place in Newton Abbot.
Organised in conjunction with Transition Newton Abbot, Teign Energy Communities and Newton Abbot Community Interest Company, the event will run from 10am-12:30pm and repairs will be carried out on a first come, first served basis so please be prepared to wait. Menders will include Stephen Evans from Any Fix South West and please note that they won’t be able to fix CRT TVs or monitors, electric blankets or microwaves, for safety reasons.
Betina Winkler, from Transition Newton Abbot (TNA), says ‘We’re looking forward to reaping the benefit of the local mending skills that are out there in the community for this event. In fact, just within TNA we realised that we had people with the right knowledge and skills to be part of this event.’
Emma Croft, Re-use Project Co-ordinator added, ‘Research shows that more than 75% of the small electrical items that come into our recycling centres could be back up and running if they were repaired. This event is designed to help householders waste less and enable them to save money and resources by not having to replace something broken.’
