Skip day triumphs

Residents on Buckland have been cleaning up their estate with the help of Teign Housing's skip day, which was held on Thursday 23rd February 2017. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side as storm Doris brought driving winds and rain, but that did little to dampen community spirits.

Three skips were provided on the day for residents to throw away unwanted items including sofas, TVs, cookers and other household rubbish. The caretaking team were also on hand providing valuable house collections for those without transport.

Rikke Hjulmand Neighbourhood Assistant said “It was nice to see so many people out, making use of the skips. Hopefully this has made a big difference to their homes!”

One resident commented “I think it’s great what you offer. It usually costs around £25.00 to get rid of rubbish and a lot of people can’t afford it”

Whilst the total cost of the day was in the region of £1000, Teign housing is committed to providing cleaner, safer and greener environments and recognises the clear benefits these days bring not only for the residents but for the wider community as a whole.

Four residents who gave up their time to help load the skips have been presented with high street gift vouchers in recognition of their efforts on the day.

Mr Bailey, resident at Drake Road said:

It’s good to have something to get involved with and to help prevent fly tipping. It’s also helpful to have the support of your landlord. I haven’t received this service anywhere else. Thank you Teign Housing”

So far this year, we have held skip days in Teignmouth, Dawlish, Newton Abbot and Buckfastleigh and all have been a massive success and a huge benefit to the residents
