Our new development in Tedburn St Mary has scoped the ‘Best Social Housing Development’ award at the recent LABC South West Regional Building Excellence Awards held at the Imperial Hotel, Torquay on Friday 8 June.

Ourselves and Totnes based contractor, Coyde Construction, are celebrating after two of our latest joint developments were nominated for the award. Harding Court, Buckfastleigh just missed the top spot to Tremletts Close and Orchard Terrace, Tedburn St Mary. The development of 10 new homes in Tedburn St Mary, four of which were transferred to Hastoe Housing Association, were completed in April 2011 and the 10 homes at Harding Court were completed in December 2011.

Mike Hanrahan, Chief Executive said: “We are very proud that two of our recent developments were nominated for the award. We take great pride in developing good quality homes that people will want to live in and building new affordable homes in Teignbridge is one of our top priorities.

“Coyde Construction has done a great job with both developments. Tremletts Close and Orchard Terrace is a good example of how new affordable housing can remain sensitive to a rural setting. The homes provide much needed affordable housing, which will help sustain the village of Tedburn St Mary by keeping the need for local services such as local shops, schools and pubs.”

Jenny Coyde, Coyde Construction’s Director said: “We are delighted to have received these awards! It was a pleasure working with Teign Housing to produce high quality affordable housing. Both schemes have enabled Coyde Construction to employ a local design team and labour to develop the projects whilst also giving the opportunity to young people to complete apprenticeships in construction."

The LABC’s South West RegionalBuilding Excellence Awards covers all nominated developments in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset. The awards are all about the essence of good buildings. Their finalists are not judged on architectural beauty, but on the ‘excellence’ shown from a construction and technical building control point of view.
