Community Development

Teign Housing wants to improve the quality of life for residents in neighbourhoods where we have homes. We are expanding our commitment to communities because we recognise that beyond the bricks and mortar there are many factors which impact on whether somewhere is a good place to live.

We will work with the wider community to make sure that everyone is included, their views heard and their needs understood. This will be achieved through a partnership approach with other agencies, to make sure that the needs of our communities are met.

Our Community Development Plan will run from 2007-2011, in a series of annual action plans setting out specific projects.

Community Chest Awards

Are you passionate about your neigbourhood?  If you have an idea for a project or event that will help improve the lives of Teign Housing customers and the surrounding community in which they live, then you may be eligible for a 'Community Chest Award'.

The Community Chest Award is an annual £5,000 that Teign Housing sets aside to fund local community projects.  From April 1st 2010 to April 1st 2011 we will be making individual Community Chest Awards, up to a maximum of £500.  Applicants must be able to demonstrate how the proposed project or event will benefit the community, and that there has been consultation with local residents.

A panel of Teign Housing residents and staff will consider the applications and make decisions about awards.  Decisions will normally be made within four weeks of application.
