Improvements programme

Heating installationMeeting our promise to you
We're delighted that we have now completed our £45 million improvements programme, which has ensured all our homes meet the government's Decent Homes Standard. Thanks to the hard work of the Tenants’ Promise Core Group, the Tenants' Forum and our contractors Connaught, Gibbs and Lugg and Rok, thousands of brand new kitchens, bathrooms and heating systems have now been installed into your homes.

What’s been done? We've:
- fitted 2,457 kitchens (16,830 units);
- installed 2,984 bathrooms;
- rewired 1,287 homes (=514,800 metres of cable);
- installed new heating systems in 801 homes;
- replaced heating systems in 1,101 homes;
- fitted heat and sound insulating double glazing to 1,483 homes (around 14,000 windows);
- fitted 4,735 front and back doors, which are secure by design;
- painted the outside of 3,384 homes; and
- installed life saving hard-wired smoke detectors into 2,289 homes (3,433 smoke detectors).

What's next?
Our work doesn't stop here!  We have a commitment to maintain your homes so they are safe and comfortabe to live in. Following a consultation with all customers in December 2008, you decided that we should follow industry guidelines for maintaining your homes.  That means we'll be carrying out the folllowing work:

  • Every 15 years we'll update gas boilers
  • Every 20 years we'll update kitchens and heating systems (storage)
  • Every 30 years we'll update bathrooms, PVCu windows, heating systems (radiators) and external doors
  • Every 40 years we'll rewire

Maintaining your homes

Using the guidelines above, we have now put together a schedule of planned maintenance work up until the end of March 2010. This programme systematically replaces the elements that make up your home, such as the roof and the windows. To view the planned maintenance programme click here>>
