Teign Housing is a top one per cent employer

Devon-based Teign Housing has claimed a spot as one of the UK’s top one per cent of employers, having secured Investor in People Platinum accreditation.

Achieving Platinum accreditation confirms that leaders and managers are applying exceptional practice that supports people to deliver organisational objectives at all levels of the organisation. The standard is tough to achieve, with less than one per cent of UK businesses reaching Platinum. Teign Housing is one of only 11 organisations in its sector in the UK to achieve this highest level.

As part of the process, around 90 employees were invited to completed a confidential online survey, with some staff then taking part in private one-to-one interviews to provide detailed feedback. Teign Housing scored above average in every area examined, when benchmarked against similar organisations in the sector.

More than 95 per cent of people replying to the online survey agreed that Teign managers believed it is important that people learn and develop their capabilities. Ninety per cent confirmed that they are developing their capability.

The assessor’s report highlighted that ‘people want to make a difference’ and that ‘the culture and processes of Teign Housing support people in doing this. Teign Housing’s strong team work was also praised.

The housing provider, which employees around 90 staff, had previously secured IIP Gold and Champion status when it was last assessed in October 2014.

Jo Reece, chief executive of Teign Housing, said: “I am delighted on behalf of all staff to announce that we have secured this prestigious accreditation. We pride ourselves on being an excellent employer, investing on average around £600 per year, per staff member, on training.

“The report captures the passion, leadership and skills that I have the pleasure of observing every day. Thank you to all the team who worked hard on providing the evidence and to all those who took time to give their views on what it’s like to work here.”
