If you are behind with your rent, speak with the Rents team as soon as possible. We will always try to work with you to get you back on track, but rent arrears are easier to deal with the sooner you tell us you’re having difficulties.
If Teign Housing has to take you to court for rent arrears, any costs incurred will be payable by yourself and added to any balance left outstanding on your rent account. Teign Housing will take additional recovery action to recover any debt left by a former tenant.
Not all court applications end in eviction. Even at this stage we’ve worked with tenants who wanted help, to support them to keep their homes. If they had contacted us sooner, we might have been able to help them avoid their rent debt increasing, avoided the additional debt of court costs and also the worry of being taken to court.
