Making homes warmer and more affordable to live in

We are really pleased to have been awarded government funding worth close to £4m, following a successful bid by Teign to bring warmer homes to residents.

The money, awarded under the government’s Warm Homes fund, will improve the energy efficiency of more than 400 of our rented homes, cutting carbon emissions, and making homes warmer and more affordable to live in.

Properties to benefit will be those currently rated as below Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) Level C. EPCs rate a home from A (very efficient) to G (inefficient) and show how much it costs to heat and light it.  Work will start later this year and will be completed by the end of March 2028.

Typical improvements will include loft and cavity wall insulation, new windows and doors, ventilation systems, and solar panel installation. Heating system replacements could include air source heat pumps, where these will be efficient.

Following completion, residents may see an estimated 20-30% saving on fuel bills, with better affordability benefitting their health and wellbeing.

Tom Woodman, chief executive of Teign Housing said: “The government funding process was very competitive, so we’re delighted to be on our way to achieving our ambition to deliver warmer homes and lower energy bills for residents.

“This is the first external funding we have achieved on this. We have appointed specialist contractor LivGreen to help oversee the programme, and the funding will also see investment in local companies to deliver the work”.

Residents whose homes are under EPC C will be written to before LivGreen make an appointment to visit. No action is needed until then.
