Are you summer ready?

The days are longer, the weather is improving and winter is becoming a distant memory.

Here we share some helpful tips about getting your home summer ready, staying safe and being respectful of your community.

Time for a spring clean

It’s time to stop putting those odd jobs off – summer is a great time to give your home a clean, tidy and refresh whilst its dry. From washing down your windows and doors, refreshing patios, balconies and gardens to checking fences and walls, this is a great time of year to take care of those things you may have been putting off.

Inside, summer calls for lighter fabrics, better airflow and a calm feel. Let your home breathe a bit more by opening windows and making it easier to stay comfortable whilst temperatures are on the rise.

Be sun safe

Whilst we all want to enjoy the warmer weather, you can become unwell if you get too hot through overheating, dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Check the weather forecasts, drink plenty of fluids, ensure you regularly apply suncream, and try to keep out of the sun during the hottest time of the day (11am-3pm).

Keep an eye on those who may be particularly sensitive to heat including older or vulnerable people or those with underlying health conditions.

Look after your pets

It’s not just humans who can suffer from problems with the heat – ensure your pets have access to shade, plenty of fresh drinking water and try to take any pets on walks at times of the day where the air is cooler.

Ensure dogs are on leads at all times in communal areas – including gardens, don’t leave them unsupervised and ensure you clear up any mess.

Communal areas

Communal gardens are a great space for you and your neighbours to enjoy together, and we have a few simple rules about these shared spaces to make sure they are safe and clean.

We do not allow the use of swimming or paddling pools, BBQs, trampolines or other large play equipment in communal areas. This is to keep the area safe for everyone’s use.

Always supervise children in communal areas so they can play safely as well.

Respect others

While we want everyone to enjoy the warmer weather and spend time outdoors where possible, we kindly ask residents to ensure they respect their neighbours and community.

Be mindful of visitors, noise and music in the evenings, helping everyone to enjoy the season comfortably.

Rubbish and fly-tipping

Hot weather can mean excess rubbish, overflowing bins and bad smells if rubbish is not disposed of properly. We encourage residents to use bins correctly and keep lids closed, please do not leave rubbish or bulky items in hallways or communal areas and recycle as much as possible.

Be a good neighbour

You can help look after your community by being considerate of those around you, respecting gardens and shared spaces, and reporting any problems early so we can help to keep your communal areas clean and safe.

Remember – the better weather is there for us all to enjoy, be a part of making your community shine this summer.
