Our Residents’ Forum has been awarding funding to local community groups to help with projects that benefit local people – and applications are open for this year!
The Residents’ Forum has a Community Chest of £5,000 that Teign Housing sets aside for local community projects. From 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026, we awarded Community Chest awards up to a maximum of £500.
The successful applicants must demonstrate how the proposed project or event will benefit the community in consultation with local residents. These applications will then be considered by a panel of Teign Housing residents who decide on who we can help.
We’re taking a look back at those projects, groups and clubs we’ve been able to help in 2025/26.
As a condition of receiving a Community Chest Award, all successful applicants are required to submit full details for the money spent and complete an evaluation form outlining the project’s success.

Let’s see who our Resident Forum awarded funds to in the past 12 months.
AJ’s Home Cooking
£500 was awarded to help with marketing and advertising for AJ’s Home Cooking to help spread the word that AJ’s will provide nutritious meals for members of the local community who are most in need of a healthy home cooked meal, without being able to cook for themselves.
AJ’s recognised that those unable to cook due to disability, age or illness are often left with expensive and unhealthy food options and AJ’s aim to ensure those who need it have the option of a hot, healthy meal.
Bovey Tracey Cricket Club
£500 was awarded to try and make cricket more accessible for all ages. Targeting development programmes for young players, as well as girls and ladies’ cricket. £500 was awarded to help towards the rental costs of the premises to enable continued support classes for local residents including seated exercise, wellbeing coffee groups and carers groups.

£500 was awarded to the College to help Year 11 students access extra support lessons for Maths and English to help them achieve their GCSEs.
The school offers these extra sessions every week, with students sometimes finding it difficult to attend these classes due to travel issues. The school has come up with the idea of putting on two additional buses to help the students and requires financial help to do this.
Jubilee Close
£150 was awarded to the residents of Jubilee Close for a parasol and padded cushions for their outdoor seating. Residents have a Tuesday group outside when its sunny as well as impromptu coffee mornings and picnics.
Moor Imagination Collective CIC
£500 was awarded to provide a free to access warm space each week over the winter months where people are able to come and spend time together in a safe and welcoming environment, with access to hot drinks and snacks.
The café space is currently open to the public on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, but the funds will go towards opening the café an extra day each week.
As well as meeting people’s needs for warmth and connection, the project enables Moor Imagination to reach a wider range of people in the community and signpost them to other support available at the community hub.
SPACE Youth Services
£500 was awarded to fund activities and trips for young people within the community.
The funding enabled SPACE to deliver an exciting and inclusive summer programme for young people offering trips and activities in Newton Abbot.
SPACE Newton Abbot is always keen to offer young people meaningful opportunities during the school holidays through youth work by ensuring they always have something to do, somewhere to go and someone to talk to.
Through Teign’s support, they were able to organise trips chosen by young people including Woodlands, Splashdown and others. The funding opened doors for young people to experience joy, build confidence, and develop skills in safe and supportive environments.
Haldon Ridge
£390 was awarded to improve the grassed area at the back of the community room at Haldon Ridge residential caravan park.
Teign Housing is fencing off the area and residents wanted some outdoor play equipment for the children who are a range of different ages.
