Devon-based Teign Housing has recruited an experienced housing development director to its board, as it signals its intention to expand its development programme and develop its sustainability.

Joanna Davoile brings to the organisation, more than 20 years’ experience in local government and housing associations in England and Wales. She is currently director of development at Wales & West Housing, where she has overall responsibility for delivery of the organisation’s development strategy and the association’s £65m annual development spend.

Joanna, who has experience in governance roles including as a Board Member for SHAL Housing, has a strong local connection to the area having lived previously in the region for around 12 years and having held early roles working on behalf of Teign Housing and for  Teignbridge District Council.

Her appointment at Teign Housing, which holds the top regulator ratings for governance and financial viability, comes as the Board start work on a new corporate plan with early ambitions for increased sustainability and increased scale of development.

Joanna said: “It is great to have joined the board and to have the opportunity to put something back into a region that I understand well. Whilst much of my professional experience has been in the development of new-build social housing, my career began in housing management and homelessness and that experience continues to guide my approach and motivations. Starting my career in customer-focused roles helping those in the most acute housing need gave me a real insight into the challenges that social housing residents can face.

“I look forward to working with my fellow board members and the executive to continue making a positive difference and providing people with a secure platform from which they can access better opportunities for education, employment, health and social care.”

Andy Jones, chair of Teign Housing, said: “We are delighted to welcome Joanna to the board and it’s a credit to Teign that we’ve been able to attract such a strong new member to further boost our governance.

“Joanna’s local connection, her extensive experience of sustainable construction and zero carbon initiatives and her voluntary work as a career and business coach, made her a standout candidate and I’m sure she’ll make a valuable contribution to our organisation during her tenure with us.”
