Deadline: 04/01/22

  • Salary: £1,749 per annum

Newton Abbot, Devon

Your insight will help shape our outlook

Teign Housing is a successful social landlord employing over 90 ambitious, committed people, responsible for managing more than 3,700 homes across South Devon. Independent scrutiny of, and challenge to, Teign Housing’s risk and audit environment is central to our continued success, and you will have a vital role to play bringing your independent view and perspective of risk management.

About the role

You will be building and maintaining positive working relationships with other members of the Audit Committee, the Chief Executive and senior management team. You will enhance our assurance and audit framework by providing independent and constructive challenge as we make the tough decisions that will help us to continue providing good quality homes and services for our local community in an ever-changing operating environment.

About you

You will:
• Share our values and work with Teign Housing to help develop insights into emerging risks and ensure the continued success of Teign Housing
• Value accountability, transparency and have a strong sense of social justice
• Have knowledge and experience of risk management, internal controls assurance and ESG reporting.

You may have experience of Board level work but this experience is not essential, just a willingness to contribute and make a difference. You may have an understanding of the social housing sector and this might be an ideal opportunity for someone looking to start their non-executive career or make a move into the sector.

Ideally, you would be able to commit to two terms of office of three years, a maximum tenure of six years.

Application information

Recruiting excellent, well rounded candidates is our priority for this role. We are seeking candidates with management experience, strategic leadership and vision, as well a passion for the sector and a commitment to Teign Housing.

Teign Housing strongly encourage applications from all sections of the community. We operate an inclusive and transparent recruitment and assessment process, underpinned by an organisational commitment to equality and diversity. We are particularly interested to hear from groups where Teign Housing (and the housing sector in general) are currently under-represented at Board level (for example with respect to ethnicity, younger ages, disability, LGBTQ+, and those living in areas of low social mobility). Prior experience as a Board or Committee Member, or an understanding of the housing sector and the regulatory context within which we operate would be useful but is not essential, as training and support can be provided.
